Senior Account Manager/Account Director – Corporate/Media

Redleaf is looking for a creative, enthusiastic and adaptable individual to work in its new corporate/media team, across a wide range of accounts, including technology, financial and professional services, marketing and even international development.

You will be expected to work on major, established businesses, as well as entrepreneurial start-ups. The successful candidate must be a confident self-starter and comfortable in an agency environment.

A few things you will be great at:

  • Delighting your clients with creative ideas and truly strategic advice
  • Demonstrating a broad understanding of financial, lobbying, consumer, corporate, B2B, Crisis Management and media training.
  • New business development

You will also:

  • Have worked with a wide range of clients (but preferably have background in technology) for a minimum of four years
  • Achieved success at Senior Account Manager and/or Account Director

 

Main requirements for this role are:

  • Minimum of four years’ experience working in a communications agency or in-house environment, preferably in the financial services sector
  • Excellent creative writing skills with strong grammatical knowledge
  • Established journalist and industry contacts: must be prepared to network
  • A proven ability to secure press coverage and raise the profile of individuals and companies
  • Proactive and enthusiastic in approach; able to put ideas into practice and roll up their sleeves to manage accounts at all levels
  • Hard working and committed to delivering superior client service
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well as part of a team and develop strong relationships with clients and journalists
  • Good IT skills and knowledge of social media
  • Understanding and experience of content and thought leadership campaigns
  • Experience of working on integrated marketing communications campaigns
  • Confident phone manner
  • Strong understanding of the products and issues in financial services

Main duties:

  • Work within the Corporate/Media team to achieve agreed client objectives
  • Build and manage relationships with journalists and other stakeholders
  • To assist with all media and stakeholder relations
  • To support the Corporate/Media team meet its commercial objectives

Qualifications/education required:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification

In addition to individuals with PR experience, we would also be willing to consider someone with a background in journalism.

Salary dependent on experience, with benefits package including pension, health insurance, gym membership, travel insurance, life assurance, zones 1-3 travel allowance and 30 days’ annual leave.

New business commission payable on retainers equivalent to 10% for the first year. Annual bonuses payable in the event that individual and team budgets are met.

Account Director, role description:

Client servicing

  • Provide clients with a high-quality, professional service
  • Identify objectives and agree strategy with client
  • Evaluate objectives tactically and evaluate tactics strategically
  • Meet client objectives with optimum use of time
  • Maintain clients trust and confidence
  • Directing a portfolio of clients, ensuring accounts are run profitably and effectively
  • Ensure team members follow client procedures as instructed
  • Ensure that client servicing is maintained at agreed levels
  • Alert divisional head immediately of any problem with client programme or relationship
  • Develop creative results orientated ideas for client programmes
  • Develop strong news management skills
  • Develop news angles and to react to news agenda efficiently
  • Generating a range of solutions, evaluating likely outcomes and taking appropriate action confidently

Administrative duties

  • Ensure that client objectives are documented within proposals or plans

Industry knowledge

  • Keep abreast of client and industry issues, analyse how these affect clients and programme planning, and advising client
  • Demonstrate an understanding of differing marketing disciplines
  • Demonstrate expertise  in writing, media liaison third party liaison, media evaluation, client liaison, supplier negotiation and budget management
  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of financial, lobbying, consumer, corporate, business to business, crisis management, media training
  • Deliver value added initiatives, information and consultancy based on industry understanding and awareness
  • Share understanding with the team
  • Understand how current and future business trends affect the client and advising accordingly
  • Deliver quality material associated with communications plans, project proposals, presentations
  • Demonstrate how knowledge of current affairs and best business practice has been applied to the client

Relationship building

  • Develop and broaden internal, external and client relationships
  • Establish ways to enhance client satisfaction
  • Own and manage account renewal and growth
  • Identify ways to become increasingly involved with client organisation
  • Nurturing media contacts and relationships with journalists covering clients portfolio
  • Support Redleaf objectives and culture
  • Demonstrate excellent team work within division and across the group

Business development

  • Understand the principles of business development including growth management
  • Work cooperatively with the Redleaf creative and other regions/ specialist teams to ensure a high level of client service, taking responsibility for creative briefing process, accuracy in quotes and full project management of jobs
  • Conduct new business research following a brief
  • Arrange and lead brainstorm sessions
  • Contribute to new business activity through research, development of  proposals, presentations, attendance at new business meetings, pitches
  • Represent Redleaf at PR industry and business networking events
  • Seek opportunities to grow business with existing clients
  • Generate new ideas and gain commitment
  • Influence others using a range of approaches according to the situation
  • Manage expectations that are unreasonable
  • Demonstrate how business development principles can be applied to the client
  • Cultivating a client following to ensure repeat business

Management

  • Ensure that accounts remain profitable
  • Understand organisation business plan and how it will be achieved
  • Ensure effective business management through adherence to procedures
  • Manage and support managers fully
  • Assist with the evaluation and production of progress/media reports
  • Investing time with colleagues outside immediate account teams to develop understanding of strategy development and skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to relate team goals to overall organisational goals
  • Use management information to deliver value and ensure profitability
  • Coach other team members, explain and demonstrate tasks clearly, correcting performance in an encouraging way
  • Providing training for junior members of the teams
  • Deputising for directors at management meetings as necessary
  • Ensure fee and profitability targets are achieved
